In 1892, Catherine Anderson, her husband Hans, and two daughters settled in Leavenworth with the advent of the Great Northern Railway Company. Mrs. Anderson initially ran a restaurant on Front Street, which was lost in the Thanksgiving Day fire of 1896. The Anderson Hotel, later purchased by Crystal (West) Brisky in July 1946, served as a haven for elderly residents, earning the unofficial name “Elderager.”
During the town’s revival in the 1970s and 1980s, the building was renamed the Crystal Hotel until Mrs. Brisky’s passing in October 1988. Recently renovated under new ownership, Mrs. Anderson’s offers rustic-inspired rooms blending historic charm with modern conveniences like WIFI, flat-screen TVs, and Keurigs. Now Leavenworth’s oldest commercial wood frame building, it proudly stands as the town’s oldest hotel.
